Priest Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński

Stefan Wyszyński was born on 3rd August 1901 in Zuzela. His mother died when he was 9 years old. Stefan always said that Sent Mary replaced his real mother. As a child and a teenager he serves at Mass and even teaches Religion to younger children. After completing secondary education - Górski's Gimnazjum he decided to attend he seminary in Włocławek, which he finished in 1924. Because of the health problems his consecration was held a bit later. Stefan Wyszyński started working in the diocese and as the editor of the local magazine but he was sent to the College of Canon Law at the Catholic University in Lublin. After receiving an advanced university degree called Doctor of Philosophy he was travelling around western Europe. When the second World War started Priest Wyszyński was forced to hide in Wrociszew, Kozłówka, Zakopane and Laski, because he was wanted by German Police. After the war on 12th May 1946 he became the Head of Lublin Metropolis. His aim was to serve SOLI DEO PER MARIAM (the only God by Mary). His work is based on the cooperation with workers, youth and intelligent people. Two years later Stefan Wyszyński became the Primate of Poland and the Cardinal. His "fighting" against communist authorities and his memorial to Polish communist government "NON POSSUMUS - WE CAN NOT" caused that he was arrested in 1953 and separated in different places to 1956. In summer 1957 he was freed, came back to Warsaw and met the Pope Pius XII in Rome, from whose hands he finally got his cardinal's hat. Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński took part in choosing Karol Wojtyła as the Pope. Jan Paweł II told important words in that time: "It would be not possible for the Pole to become the Pope without Wyszyński's belief and resistance". Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński died suddenly on 28th May 1981. He was buried in St. John's Cathedral in Warsaw. The process of his beatification started on 20th May 1989.
